Jefferson Parish will soon begin construction on the long-awaited North Causeway Boulevard Widening Project, expanding the roadway between West Napoleon Avenue and Airline Drive from four lanes to six. Construction is scheduled to begin in November and is expected to last approximately 18 months.

Design Engineering, Inc. (DEI) was selected by Jefferson Parish in 2018 to perform an updated traffic study and design the project. In addition to the new travel lanes, the project will bring important infrastructure upgrades, including improved drainage, new curbs and gutters, asphalt paving, decorative lighting, and modernized traffic signals at median crossings.

The project, estimated at $15–25 million, is funded through bonds backed by a one percent sales tax renewed by voters in 2016. The need for widening was first identified in 2008 and has only grown in the years since, particularly with Ochsner Health’s expanded footprint in the area. By addressing congestion and safety concerns, this project will significantly improve mobility and connectivity for Jefferson Parish residents, commuters, and visitors.

DEI is proud to have partnered with Jefferson Parish to deliver the design and engineering for this transformative roadway improvement.
