Project Information

Design Engineering, Inc. (DEI) is providing traffic engineering and planning services for the proposed Bunche connection to Airline Drive which will serve the new George S. Washington School currently under construction in Jefferson Parish. The project was initiated to evaluate improved access to the future school site, which currently lacks a direct roadway connection to a major arterial roadway. Without this connection, traffic accessing the campus would be required to travel through surrounding residential streets, creating potential congestion and safety concerns for nearby neighborhoods. DEI is working with the Jefferson Parish School Board and local agencies to analyze existing conditions and evaluate potential improvements that will provide a safer and more efficient connection between the Bunche community and Airline Drive.

Scope Of Work

DEI is conducting a comprehensive traffic study to evaluate roadway conditions and operational performance along Airline Highway and the surrounding roadway network serving the future George S. Washington School site. The effort includes traffic data collection, analysis of existing and projected traffic volumes, and evaluation of intersection operations, turning movements, and roadway safety conditions. Using traffic engineering analysis and modeling tools, DEI is assessing potential roadway connections and access improvements that will provide a more direct route between the Bunche community and Airline Drive while minimizing neighborhood cut-through traffic. The study will result in recommendations to guide future roadway improvements that enhance accessibility, safety, and traffic flow for the school and surrounding community.
